This program represents a dynamic new partnership between the NYC Department of Veterans' Services (DVS) and the Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA). The artists, Christine Tinsley and Jules Rochielle, will present on their 8-month long embedded artist residency where they worked to create and engage a community of female veterans. The creative team will offer insights into their work with veterans as well as their experience as the first Public Artists in Residence (PAIR) with DVS and DCLA. Christine Tinsley's portraits of female veterans will be on view, and she will discuss her contemplative practice of transforming used military uniforms into handmade paper. Jules Rochielle will share an interactive map that offers insight into their creative process for community outreach, events, and community art workshops.
Funding for PAIR at the Department of Veterans' Services has been generously provided by the David Rockefeller Fund as well as the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs.
